The refractory materials used in industrial melting furnaces are a big investment for the glass manufacturer.
The different parts of the furnace, including melter, refiner, working end/forehearth channels and regenerator chambers, require different refractory types with specific chemistry and properties. In regular glass production, furnace refractories are a source for solid defects, like stones and cords in the glass.
